FYBR KIDZ GRADUATION - Recognition Event

N2R, SISTAS, CORAL and HP
Celebrated the Graduation of Students from the Follow the Yellow Brick Road Telementor Program

Emotions ran high as 34 students from several area schools met their telementors for the first time on August 11th, 2003 during their graduation from the web based program, "Follow the Yellow Brick Road--Job & Life Skills Telementoring Program," or FYBR (www.fybr.org). The graduation celebration was held at the new HP Community Technology Center in the Del Paso CORAL (Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning) facility in Sacramento located at 2110 Del Paso Blvd.

The students and the HP telementor knew each other by CODE NAME only. One of the students messages was read out loud and then both the student and the HP telementor were called up front to meet each other and receive a certificate of completion from the course as well as a FYBR KIDZ shirt. What a feeling.

The students had been working with their HP telementors remotely over the past five weeks accessing the FYBR program from the new HP Community Technology Center in the Del Paso CORAL facility. All of the telementors for this FYBR session were from HP. The HP volunteers have been able to successfully telementor from their home or office.

About N2R and FYBR

N2R, a tax exempt, 501 (c)(3) United Way Certified agency, is one of the first regional community networks in the nation. It was formed in 1995 by twenty-five diverse organizations, including government, hospitals, libraries, k-12 education, higher education, nonprofits, and computer user groups aimed at developing a shared infrastructure for delivery of regional information, training, and education. FYBR is the world's first interactive web based automation of the processes associated with mentoring--including recruitment, application, orientation, training, screening, matching, telementor/student interaction, monitoring, closure, incentives and recognition. Through FYBR, working professionals telementor students in job and life skills.

Special thanks as always to N2R and FYBR's amazing web master and designer Karri Hall, owner of www.thewebcat.com.
